SAS Quick Reference

SAS Quick Reference is a working desk reference, not a course. It assumes you already know what a mean and a standard deviation are, and gets straight to the SAS syntax you need to compute them, model them, and reproduce the result six months later.

Ten chapters build from the DATA step and PROC step -- the two building blocks of every SAS program -- through variable types and formats, array-driven DATA step logic, importing and exporting real files, merging and reshaping datasets, the core descriptive-statistics PROCs (MEANS, UNIVARIATE, FREQ), hypothesis testing (TTEST, ANOVA, CORR), regression and modeling (REG, GLM, LOGISTIC), statistical graphics with PROC SGPLOT and ODS Graphics, and the SAS macro language for reproducible, parameterized programs. A one-page syntax appendix closes the book for the fastest possible lookup.

Unlike this series' other titles, no SAS interpreter is available in the environment this book was written in, so it was built to a different, explicit standard: every numeric result quoted in the book was first computed independently in Python or R and cross-checked, and every listing's SAS syntax was hand-written and checked against official SAS documentation. Nothing here was silently fabricated -- where a result rests on cross-verification rather than a live SAS session, the book says so. If your own SAS output differs, something in your data or options differs too, and that is worth tracking down before moving on.
